Chisinau is the capital and largest city of Moldova. An economic and cultural center located in the center of the country on the Byke River. Chisinau has a special status in the administrative division of Moldova — it is a municipality.

In addition to the city of Chisinau itself, the municipality of the same name includes six surrounding towns (Syngera, Durlesti, Vatra, Codru, Vadul lui Voda, Cricovo) and twenty-five villages, united into thirteen communes. Kishinev was first mentioned in a charter of 1436. It received the status of a city in 1818 after becoming part of the Russian Empire, and the status of a municipality in 1995
