Podolsk is a Russian city of regional importance and, at the same time, the administrative center of the Podolsky District of Moscow Region, located on the Pakhra River.

The city was formed from the village of Podol, which belonged to the Moscow Danilov Monastery in the 18th century. In 1971 Podol was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. In 2004 it was given the status of urban district. In 2006 the city celebrated its 225th anniversary.
