Borgholm is a town and center of Borgholm commune in Kalmar County, Sweden. In 2010, 3,071 residents lived in the city. It is located on the island of Öland in the Baltic Sea.

Borgholm is one of the historical cities of the kingdom with the former city status of "stud" (city). The city is best known for its once glittering fortress, which is now in ruins. Despite its small population, Borgholm is often referred to as the “herd” (city) for historical reasons. However, Statistics Sweden recognizes settlements with populations of 10,000 or more as “herds” (cities).
